Description
The Stainless Steel Sheet 410S stands as a low carbon, non-hardening modification of Alloy 410, the general-purpose 12% chromium martensitic stainless steel. Its distinctive characteristics include low carbon content and a small alloy addition, strategically minimizing austenite formation at high temperatures, thereby restricting the alloy’s propensity to harden. Even when rapidly cooled from above the critical temperature, 410S remains soft and malleable, a crucial trait in preventing cracking during exposure to high temperatures or welding.
In the annealed condition, 410S stainless steel is completely ferritic, exhibiting adequate corrosion resistance akin to 410 and commendable oxidation resistance. This non-hardening feature proves invaluable, ensuring resilience against cracking under various thermal conditions. The corrosion resistance mirrors that of type 410, making it resilient in atmospheric conditions, fresh water, mild organic and mineral acids, alkalis, and some chemicals. Notably, its exposure to chlorides in daily activities, such as food preparation and sports, remains satisfactory with proper cleaning after use.
